just yesterday, i met up with a friend. she's a teacher now. and she was just telling me how her students' compositions sometimes end up looking the same, and how it's obvious whom they copied the work from. it's funny how the little ones don't realize that such things can be obvious, that even when they change a little bit of the content and some words, they can't change the style.
then we talked about originality, and both of us agreed that everyone should learn and try to be original. adopting someone else's style is just not going to work. well, at least i try my best to be original in the things that i do. take for example my writing style, this is me and this is how i like to present my work.
i like it that once people read certain things, they will know that it's me, it's jeanette. i don't like to take people's work and claim it as my own. if i want to use a quote i really love, or even photos not taken by me, i would credit the person, or the source. i think it's only fair that i respect the author, and i don't plagiarize.
so much for originality, this is a pretty lengthy discourse. but think about it, wouldn't this world be a boring place if everyone took on the same style, same look, same expressions, be made from the same mould.. same same same same same same same? pretty scary isn't it? =)
